This month’s philanthropic client spotlight is focused on The Tariq Khamisa Foundation (TKF). TKF’s mission is to stop youth violence through education, mentorship, and restorative practice programs which have a holistic and multi-intervention approach. TKF was founded in 1995 after college student Tariq Khamisa was murdered by a 14 year-old boy, Tony Hicks. Tariq’s family chose to forgive Tony and along with Tony’s grandfather, have been working tirelessly through the years to end youth violence. Pro Back Office has been working with TKF just over one year and during that time we have volunteered at their annual gala event, attended peace assemblies and have been fortunate to have formed a great relationship with the foundation. The guidance and understanding they provide to youths in the San Diego community and beyond is invaluable. Additionally, the Tariq Khamisa Foundation was recently awarded the YMCA Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Human Dignity Award for their dedication in fighting against youth violence.
